Gary Cook, Network Director
Gary came to USCAN in October 2003 and has been serving as Director since fall of 2005. Gary has been working on global warming advocacy for the past ten years both in Washington, DC and at the international level. Prior to coming to USCAN, Gary worked on climate and energy issues for six years at Greenpeace USA, where he served as Legislative Director and Director for their Global Warming & Energy Campaign. Gary also currently serves on the board for Climate Action Network International and on the Advisory Board for Energy Action.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Gary received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, and his J.D. from the University of Alabama.
David Turnbull, Communications Coordinator
David joined USCAN in October 2006 as Communications Coordinator. He comes from the World Resources Institute, where he served as Coordinator for two international networks working to promote inclusive and accountable environmental governance. Prior to WRI, David spent time interning at the League of Conservation Voters and a small environmental consulting firm, and served as Night-time Weather Observer at the Mount Washington Observatory.
David was born and raised in the Washington, DC area and received his B.A. from Dartmouth College in Geography and Environmental Studies.
Jessica Coven, Program Manager
Jessica came to CAN in 2005 as serves as the program manager. Prior to joining CAN, she worked for three years at Greenpeace USA as a global warming and energy campaigner. At Greenpeace, Jessica focused on exposing ExxonMobil’s role in corrupting the climate change debate and spent a summer working for Greenpeace China in Beijing.Jessica graduated from Columbia University in 2002 with a combined degree in Asian studies and human rights and is currently pursuing a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Jessica speaks Mandarin Chinese.
Bertie Troughton, Intern
Bertie came to CAN in January 2007 and is on a 6 month intern placement whilst he finishes his Masters at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Economics and International Energy Policy. Bertie graduated from Cambridge University in 2005.
