Negotiating Blocs definitions


Below are the common negotiating blocs and some brief descriptions. 


African Group 
African countries


AOSIS   

Alliance of Small Island States, 43 members, also members of the G77


Environmental Integrity Group


A newer grouping, that includes Mexico Switzerland and South Korea

EU - European Union

The 25 countries of the EU, led by the rotating presidency

G77 and China


A bloc of developing countries that actually has over 130 members

Least developed countries
48 countries, recognized by the UN as being those with the lowest development

OPEC

the cartel of oil-producing nations



Umbrella Group

An informal loose coalition of non-EU developed countries, including Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the US.
