The Newfoundland and Labrador Environment Network (NLEN) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of our province’s natural heritage. The NLEN serves as an umbrella group for non-profit organisations working across the province that share the goals of environmental conservation and education.
The strength of the NLEN is rooted in its member organisations and the work they carry out on a range of issues: protected areas, climate change, environmental education, food security, community sustainability, coastal clean-up, eco-justice, air quality, wildlife protection, electronic waste, pesticides, mining, waste management, watershed planning and fisheries.
What we do:
1. Collaboration:
- The NLEN provides networking opportunities at the local, provincial, national and international levels.
- Membership in the NLEN automatically provides membership to the Canadian Environment Network (RCEN) and connections with over 600 RCEN member organisations across the country.
2. Communication:
The weekly NLEN E-Update provides the most comprehensive source of information on environmental activities, events, news and employment opportunities in the province to a distribution list of approximately 1000 groups and individuals.
- NLEN serves as a point of contact for the public, governments, the private sector and others on environmental issues.
3. Policy development:
- The NLEN contributes to environmental policy development through research, communication and networking activities.
4. Capacity development:
- The NLEN organises workshops and events on issues such as organisational management, fundraising, etc.
- Our annual AGM offers an opportunity for organisations to gather, share ideas, debate, and take stock of environmental activities in the province.
- The NLEN Member Support Program provides small grants to assist NLEN member organisations with expenses such as attending conferences, planning events or producing educational materials.
