The Head of Communications is a member of the CAN-I Senior Management Team. S/he sets and directs the CAN network’s overall communication strategy and leads both the Secretariat communications team and the CAN communicators’ network to enhance CAN’s communication strategy and approach; develop the profile and brand of the network; and ensure successful execution of activities to secure CAN-I goals.
François joined CAN in January 2018 with extensive experience leading teams on strategic and sustainability communications, stakeholder engagement and external affairs across the public, private and third sectors.
Deeply committed to positive change, he has spent the bulk of his career driving collaborative action for sustainability, whether through communications, strategic partnerships, social entrepreneurship or cross-sector collaboration. Under the UNFCCC, he has trained more than 5,000 negotiators and sustainability leaders on the links between gender and climate change; developed gender and climate change strategies and action plans for the governments of Jordan, Egypt, Tanzania, Liberia, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Arab League of States; co-authored the Gender Action Plan for the UNCCD and UNEP; and conducted a landmark gender review of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) on behalf of the CIF Joint Trust Fund Committees.
Shortly before joining CAN, François lead communications and stakeholder engagement for the Payments Strategy Forum, a ground-breaking multi-stakeholder initiative of the UK Payment Systems Regulator/ Financial Conduct Authority which brought c-suite managers of high street banks, consumer representatives, e-money providers and fintech companies together to develop a new strategy for payment systems in the country which processes more than 22 billion transactions worth around GBP 75 trillion annually.
