[Doha – Qatar] – November 26, 2012 – Civil society groups attending UN climate talks in Doha, Qatar, will host a media briefing, webcast live, TODAY at 11am, on the first day of the negotiations, to outline what needs to happen over the next two weeks to achieve a successful outcome at COP18.

[Bangkok – Thailand] At a press conference on the last day of UN climate talks in Bangkok, Thailand, international experts from NGOs organized in the Climate Action Network (CAN) assessed the Bangkok outcome, discussed the role of different countries in the talks, and gave an outlook for COP18 in Doha at the end of the year.

NGO BRIEFING ON THE NEGOTIATIONS
[BANGKOK, THAILAND] Civil society groups attending UN climate talks in Bangkok, Thailand, will host a media briefing, webcast live, on the last day of the negotiations to assess the Bangkok outcome.

"Saturday's 1st Place and only Fossil was awarded to the European Commission for attempting to show leadership in the wrong direction, away from the Durban decision to increase ambition - a decision which the EU actually claims to be champions of.

The Climate Action Network (CAN) - a global network of over 700 NGOs from more than 90 countries working to promote action to limit climate change to ecologically sustainable levels - is attending the UNFCCC Intersessional Meeting being held in Bangkok from 30 August to 5 September 2012.
CAN believes the following three priority areas need to be discussed in Bangkok:
- Set expectations for concrete outcomes at COP18 in Doha, especially in terms of agreeing a second commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol

In an unprecedented move, the Fossil of the Day award
was today given to ALL governments attending the Rio+20 summit. NGOs
reacted to the adoption of a shockingly weak outcome text applauded by
all governments in the plenary this morning, pointing out that -
contrary to the document's title - the agreement did NOT reflect the
future they want.

In an unprecedented move, the Fossil of the Day award broke protocol today to award a special fossil to big oil and their friends. The award is a recognition of the back room, dirty tactics that the fossil fuel industry and lobby has used here in Rio and for years to block progress on climate change and sustainable development.

Today's first place fossil goes to Algeria!
Algeria on behalf of the group of G77 was awarded the third ever Rio Fossil of the Day today. Moves to oppose language in relation to effective civil society engagement and participation in implementing sustainable development have earned them the top spot.
