Africa Institute for Energy Governance (AFIEGO)

Africa Institute for Energy Governance (AFIEGO) is a non governmental organization based in Kampala-Uganda.

The idea of establishing AFIEGO came in after realizing the gaps in the formulation and enforcement of policies and laws in the energy sector across the world. It is these gaps and other shortcomings that account to the global energy crisis. AFIEGO is carrying out a number of activities to see to it that the Government of Uganda uses the country’s resources for the benefit of its citizens.

To influence energy polices for the people and vulnerable communities.

Our Objectives

  • To build capacity of the people to participate in the making and implementation of energy policies to ensure equity and justice in development
  • To promote access rights as a tool for transparence and accountability in the energy sector
  • To provide energy related pro-bono legal services and paralegal trainings to poor people and vulnerable communities
  • To promote efficient utilization of energy resources for human health and environmental conservation.
  • To improve the quality and relevancy of public policy formulation and implementation at all levels through public policy research and policy advocacy
  • To empower citizens to demand for accountability in policy and decision making through trainings, seminars, legal advisory services, strategic and public based litigation processes.
  • To strengthen the institutional capacity of AFIEGO as a leading public energy research and policy advocacy organization in Eastern and Southern Africa in order to pursue the above objectives
