African Youth Movement on the Environment

The African Youth Movement on the Environment was founded on March 24th 2002 at Jutland, Denmark by the African delegates to the UNEP Global Youth Forum [GYF] 2002 which was attended by 100 participants from 60 countries of the world and represented the world youth presummit to the world summit on sustainable development. In May 2002, our movement through our focal point in Senegal hosted the African Youth Forum in Dakar, Senegal as the African Youth presummit to the WSSD. It was of utmost importance for the African Youths since as it was, an African who is also the Chairman of the African Youth Movement was elected at the GYF2002 to represent the world youths at the WSSD. So the focus of this movement has been on taking steps by involving other NGOs and compelling governments to take action to ensure environmental sustainability and sustainable development especially keys areas like poverty, gender facilitation in process, qualitative education, health, fresh water resources etc.
