Climate Action Network Europe (CAN-E) cordially invites you to participate in the side event entitled European Union Emissions Trading System Review: Early lessons and insights from other regions.
During the side event experiences in and perspectives of Emissions Trading in a variety of countries will be shared. It will provide a unique opportunity to analyse the respective systems, from various perspectives, as well as debate their likely climate benefits. Experts from non-governmental organizations from across Europe, as well as the USA and Australia, will discuss the lessons that can be learned from their respective Emissions Trading Systems, whether in operation or in the planning stages. In addition the role of EU bilateral relations in the global market will be highlighted and a representative of International Emissions Trading Association will provide the business perspective on the international carbon market.
The EU scheme, as the leading player, must be environmentally sound and achieve emissions reductions in an effective and efficient manner. The review process provides the opportunity to assess this but also to correct the shortcomings and pitfalls of the scheme.
