Pre-COP18 Advocacy Workshop 2012

Read the Report from the Advocacy Workshop

CAN International in partnership with Southern Voices Program organized a three day pre COP event from 21st to 23th November in Doha, Qatar. The focus of the workshop was training in climate change advocacy based on experiences shared by national and regional climate networks, with a view to promote cross-learning and to develop climate change advocacy tools. Two-days focused on the national and regional climate change agendas and one-day looked at the international advocacy towards the UNFCCC and other intergovernmental organisations.

Almost 50 participants from the networks in the Global South attended this capacity building workshop. It is targeted on networks for promoting climate change advocacy through experience sharing, case study presentation and interactive methodology. This is a part of learning, sharing and synergy building activity among networks from different regions.

The specific objectives of the training were:

1. Providing space for CAN members and other stakeholders to build their capacity on climate policy, advocacy, campaigns and networking.

2. Engaging participants in a strategic planning process to influence climate policy between 2012 and 2015 on the national and international level.

3. Preparing participants for COP18 in Doha.

4. Building and strengthening the climate movement by increasing collaboration between the Network members.
